Honeymoon

We chose to head to the USA for our Honeymoon – driving from Denver to San Francisco on the route shown below:

3rd July – arrived in Denver, absolutely knackered, but determined to get out. Checked into Magnolia and were upgraded to Suite on top floor – massive room with living/dining/kitchen, fire etc – would be great if we were going to be spending more than 2 nights. Oh well. Did manage to get Titan Toothpicks and fries at Rock Bottom Brewery on 16th Street Mall washed down with Kolsch beer and Lemonade πŸ™‚

4th July – quick walk around Denver, found the Coors field baseball stadium and a few other tourist attractions. Ann Marie dragged me (kicking and screaming) to the Cheescake factory – get the feeling it won’t be our last time we are there during our trip.

The baseball was great – one of the balls flew into the crowd literally 5ft from Ann Marie – can’t believe she didn’t catch it.

Off to P.F.Changs for dinner – beware stomach!

5th July -Headed up to Boulder via the Flatirons mall – where Mr Moyes got a shiny new Apple iPad – very cool. Bit of shopping for the family, and then up to Boulder itself. Madam spotted the Cheesecake factory and before you could say ‘Straberry Daquiri’ and ‘Pint of Fat Tire’, we were sat down in the sun enjoying the view. Introduced Anna to the best nacho’s in the world at the Corner Bar of the Boulderado Hotel – puffy nacho’s. More Fat Tire – πŸ™‚

6th July – Up to Estes Park, didn’t realise it was day for a Rodeo march through town, so parked up and had a look. Next to hotel where the Shining was filmed and also the bar scene from Dumb & Dumber – ‘we’ve landed on the moon’ ! Up through Rocky Mountain National Park to Lake Dillon

7th July – Sailing on Lake Dillon. You can see Anna at the helm, can report that did very good job – we didn’t capsize once. Then off to Breckenridge for the afternoon.

8th July – Big drive today to Moab – good news was that hotel was nice – had good pool. Very warm. Not much in Moab to be fair, but quick spot of dinner and early night to get ready for sunrise balloon trip.

9th July – the balloon trip was amazing – got so close to the rocks. Saw the place used for opening sequence of Mi-II. Then another long drive, this time to Grand Canyon. You know, it’s just a big hole in the ground. Hmmm. Good news is that we found an ace bar about 50 feet from the edge and suprise suprise had Strawberry Daquiri and Fat Tire. Predictable?

10th July – time to head for Vegas, via the Hoover Damn – scene out of Transformers. Hotest place so far on the trip – was literally a case of jump out of the car, take picture then dive back into the air-con. Anna of course loved it – grrr!

11th July – got upgrade at Bellagio to a suite – it totally rocked. Had 3 toilets, 4 TV’s, ace living room with view of fountains. Breakfast at the cheesecake factory – felt sick πŸ™

12th July – Off to Morro Bay in California. Interesting place, great hotel, and fab kayaking trip out to the sand bar. Where the company set up a BBQ, had dinner, and kayaked back in the dark – spooky!

13th July – Up to Carmel, it’s a fairly funky place. Where Clint Eastwood was Major. Cool place, next to 17 Mile drive and pebble beach golf club.

14th July – What a day – getting to Half Moon Bay – the best hotel of our stop, and had lunch & dinner at the Half Moon Bay Brewery – and you’ve guessed it – more drinks. No Fat Tire this time, so tried their own brews – not bad.

15th July – worst day – headed to Sonoma via Suasilito. Sausilito itself was great – fantastic location looking towards San Fran. However, the hotel in Sonoma SUCKED. So much so that we checked out first thing the next morning and headed back to Half Moon Bay – our favourite place of the trip.

16th July – Back to half moon bay via REI outdoor shop. Anna accused me of ‘pulling’ a couple of blokes in the gents clothing dept. I disagree, but good to know i’ve still got it – chortle !!

17th July – Flight back to UK on BA. Everyone in the lounge had iPad’s – it was crazy – like they given out free or something.

What a fantastic adventure, and what a way to spend a couple of weeks. Driving half way across America and seeing some amazing things.
